It was as hot as it always was, not that she wasn't used to it. Though it wasn't a bad becuase a slight breeze was rolling in, so that was a bit a relief. Syd's platium blonde hair was up in a high pony tail, she wore a white tank top and some jean cut off shorts. On her face a sat a large pair of black sun glasses that cover up not only her eyes but a large part of her face.
Though it was still very hot, it was pretty early so most of the other people where still asleep. Syd had been planning to go up to the ruins and wanted to get there before it got crazy hot outside. From what she heard it took awhile to get there so why not get a head start early.

Sam drove Dream into a full out gallop. She leaned for to get aero dynamics for her gelding. Dream's hooves pounded a rhythm and pushed up dust from the dirt path as they sped along it. He jumped over some big roots in the path and skidded to a stop before running into a girl. Sam pulled back on the reins and calmed Dream down once they were stopped.
If you're going to the ruins you might as well turn around. Cannibals have invaded it and they're hungry. They're hunting so it isn't safe for you. She said. Sam sat tall in the saddle and looked down at the girl with intense seriousness and slight concern for the girl and every other orphan's life. She had already lost a few to the cannibals and she didn't want to loose anymore.

Syd let out a disgruntled sound as she looked out toward the ruins. She hated the cannibals, and it wasn't because they had ruined her trip she had been planning. Sydney had been here for a little over two years, and since being her she lost her only friend here to them. She had gone after them once though she wasn't telling anyone what happened. Needless to say she had been punished for it, but even now that didn't matter to her.
Running her tongue over her dry lips Syd let out another sigh. For the most part she did what she was told, but this was giving up a chance to find the cannibal that killed her friend and that was hard for her. "Sure, whatever you say." she stated muttering "you highness" under her breath.

Sam's blue eyes narrowed when she heard Syd mutter something under her breath. Something sarcastic and uncalled for. She gritted her teeth and squeezed the reins in her hands so hard that her knuckles were white. Sam slowly released the reins and relaxed herself a bit before replying. I'm sorry I ruined your day by trying to keep you from your death. No matter what you do you will always be out numbered by them. They are very smart. Booby traps are set up everywhere by now, I'm sure of it. The last thing anyone wants is for another orphan to be eaten. She said through clenched teeth.
Sam relaxed her jaw and nudged Dream into a walk so she could be just a few inches closer to the girl. She did not want to be called 'highness' or anything like that at all. Chace might, but not her. By the way, if you're dying for a chance to call someone 'highness' then march right over to Chace Daniels and say it to his face as much as you want. He practically absorbs the attention and thrives from it. She said. Sam's words were dripping with posion and hate. She was really beginning to loathe the 18 year old.

Sydney never really talked much around the other orphans, but then again she never really had a reason to. One of the things that she did love was that the few times she opened her mouth she knew how to push people's button. Right now was no different. In six words she had managed to make the "queen" angry. Syd laughed at the girls irritation at her sarcasm. Sydney wasn't stupid unlike most of the people around here she had bother to learn how they worked. They wouldn't have killed her she would have realized they where there and left. " I know they are smart; they have outsmarted all of us." she said with a rude edge.
Sydney's laugh was much louder than it had been the last time. The girl's disdain for Chace had been funny from the moment she noticed it. Truthfully she thought that the girl had a thing for him, and didn't want to admit it. It looked like she was playing the "i was here first" game with him. Though it didn't seem to be working. " You most really have it bad." Syd stated looked right at the other girl.

The sound of Syd's laugh made Sam's blood boil. Her jaw tightened and her eyes began to narrow into slits. Dream had picked up on his anger and he pranced in place nervously, ears laced back flat against his skull. Sam's attention immediately went to her mount. She rubbed his neck and whispered soothing words to him until he calmed down and stood still once more. Her piercing gaze went back to Syd reluctantly. She didn't even want to talk to this girl, let alone look at her anymore. No wonder she hated smart alecs.
I'm glad you acknowledged that. Sam said. She let out a breath and tried relaxing once more although it was a bit hard when the girl began talking about Chace. Well, she really wasn't, but the girl was implying that. I don't need your opinion. She said. Sam adjusted her pony and laid her hands on the saddle horn. I'd like to see how you take things if Chace gets to be king. An inexperienced, self-centered a**hole won't do any good on the throne. She said, practically hissing.

Syd got a kick out of the other girls anger. Hell she had even managed to make the horse mad. She had become very antagonistic since she was kicked out of the house that she had once lived in. It felt good to be the one one the offensive for once. She watched as the girl whispered to her horse. Filing it away in her head she knew she knew she could use "horse whisper" for some kind of insult later.
Honestly Syd didn't care who was on the so called "throne". It really didn't matter to her either way. Really she didn't see why they that a "queen" in the first place. There was an administration for a reason. To her it just felt like Sam was there to keep the kids a peace. It wasn't like she actually did anything that really effected anyone. " I don't really care if you want my opinion or not. You got it, so deal with it." she said in a matter of fact tone. This girl most really take her so called job seriously if she was getting this catty over it. " It doesn't really affect me either way. I really couldn't care less if i tried." she said in a very mellow voice.

Sam showed no emotion after Syd's last two comments. Her face went blank along with her eyes. She began to regret ever warning the girl about the cannibals. Half of her was glad that she had 'saved' her and the other half wished that the girl would be captured by cannibals and devoured. It would serve her right. She adjusted her pony tail and looked around the forest. The yells of the cannibals were faint but loud enough to be heard from here.
She just hoped that they would not get louder. Which of course meant that they were advancing toward the village. Hopefully they had learned from the last time they did that. The guards from staff had shot and killed many with their M16s. But of course a few orphans got killed in the fight as well. Which really had angered Sam. Sam looked at Syd once more. Go on ahead. I really don't give a crap anymore. She said and nudged her horse into a trot to ride past the girl and down the trail.
Her right hand held the reins while her other hand rested on the handle of the sword that was at her waist in it's holster.

When you had been through what Syd had you learned how to read people. By the fact that the other girl had gone blank meant she struck a nerve. A soft laugh slipped through Syd's lips as she looked at the girl. She liked it better when people didn't like her, that why she never had to get attached to them. Besides it wasn't like the two of them had been best friends before this anyway.
Sydney could here the vial noises that they where making. She didn't understand why they treated the cannibals like they where some creature. They where just humans with twisted taste in meats. Syd herself couldn't really see herself eating another person but then again she guessed meat was meat to them. Different strokes for different folks. Syd didn't get egged on, by people. It just didn't work that, anymore. She looked up at the girl at laughed on last time.
" Of coarse you care. It's your job." she said flatly at turned toward the village. This girl wasn't her favorite person but then again she didn't really have a favorite person anymore. " By the way the name is Syd. I just have a feeling we will be talking again." she said with a laugh and started to walk away.

Sam ignored the girl's last comments. She turned Dream around quickly when the girl introduced herself. I'd say 'nice to meet you' but it wasn't very nice meeting you. I'm Sam Dillinger. She said and turned Dream back toward the village. Sam clucked to him and he went into a canter. She rode all the way back to the village with the same expression on her face. Completely blank. Without emotion.
